Rush Hour Woes

June 20, 2011

Of course the day there's a wreck on I-10 and traffic is miserable is the day I exit and get stuck waiting for the train.

Coffee pots

June 19, 2011

These brass coffee pots are very common in Saudi Arabia. I think everyone I know from there has at least a few of these around their house as decoration.

Oooh shiny....

June 18, 2011

We stopped for a quick glass at the Tasting Room after dinner.

The Petrol Station

June 17, 2011

New happy hour spot - I love this place! They have twenty or so microbrews on tap at any given time, and quite the tasty burger.

Local Greenery

June 16, 2011

Our neighbor seems to know how to keep plants alive. Interesting concept.

Contact

June 15, 2011

Sculpture at a building complex near work. Doesn't it look kind of like that machine they built in the movie Contact? (Jodie Foster transporting herself through a wormhole...? Anyone?)

Foggy Morning

June 14, 2011

I took a little detour on my way to the airport to snap the obligatory Golden Gate bridge picture.

Chateau St. Jean

June 13, 2011

The Chateau St. Jean winery in Sonoma was the magnificent backdrop for our combination family reunion and memorial to my Great Aunt and Uncle. It was amazing to meet so many second cousins, cousins once removed, and so on. Afterwards was the wine tasting (and subsequent wine purchasing). This is the view from the chateau, of the vinyard and mountains.

When life gives you lemons...

June 12, 2011

Thanks to the GPS in my rental car, I made it to my cousin's house in San Mateo for a lovely family lunch. It was such a beautiful day...high 70's and sunny. What a nice change from Texas! My cousin has a huge lemon tree (it looks more like a bush?) in her backyard. My little nephew Dylan loved picking the lemons. Here he is with his second cousin, Naomi. There was an attempt to make lemonade, which just resulted in a lot of sticky children and lemon juice spilled everywhere.

The Rock

June 11, 2011

I flew to California today, and spent the day in San Francisco. First stop: a tour of Alcatraz. This is really one of the coolest things I've done in a long time. I took the audio tour that leads you through all the passageways of the main prison. It is really amazing to hear all the stories of attempted escapes, riots, and just daily life for the inmates there. The eeriest part had to be solitary confinement - you are actually able to go inside one of the cells. They don't shut the door anymore like they apparently used to on the tour, but I got a good enough idea as it was.

Rad New Watch

June 10, 2011

I fully intended to take a photo of the giant armadillo at Armadillo Palace (where I met my friend to celebrate her birthday), then forgot by the time I left. I got home with only 5 minutes left to take a pic of the day! This is the watch I bought at the Bayou City Arts Festival.

On the Road Again

June 9, 2011

I'm gathering up the essentials for what I hope will be the last trip I'll take for a while. But I can't wait for my family reunion in California!

Iza

June 8, 2011

I'm dogsitting my friend's little Yorkie, Iza. The thing has got to be three pounds soaking wet. The hilarious part is that both cats (significantly bigger than this dog) are terrified of her. As you can see, she is ferocious.

Don't do it.

June 7, 2011

Abandoned house in my neighborhood. It's possible I trespassed just to take the picture. James was quick to point out the irony.

Romano's Pizza

June 6, 2011

We *may* have found pizza we like more than Star Pizza. Maybe. It's a serious thing to claim, so I may need to do some more research.

Looking in my rearview mirror....

June 5, 2011

The most exciting part of my day was waiting in the car while James picked up tacos. I really had bigger plans for today, but Red Door did me in.

Red Door

June 4, 2011

Went clubbing at Red Door in Midtown. Despite our encountering the most ridiculously power-trippy doormen ever, it was a great time. My feet and head paid for it the next day though. I'm still not speaking to the pair of heels I wore that night.

Broken

June 3, 2011

This is what happens when I get cocky and think I don't need a foil cutter in order to open a bottle of wine. In my defense, my foil cutter has gone into another dimension. I have been looking for that thing for years now. It will turn up as soon as I buy another one.

Thermal Me

June 2, 2011

Self-portrait, just a day late! I guess as long as I do one once a month. My iPad has a "Thermal" camera setting, which is kind of interesting.

Stairs

June 1, 2011

As I'm headed to bed. Yeah, I know. The sad thing is I was taking this lame picture when I should have been remembering it was my self-portrait day.

Chunk Love Angela

May 31, 2011

Stop sign a block from the house. Angela's a lucky girl.

Memorial Day

May 30, 2011

Burgers grilling...nice family dinner.
