Light Painting

April 24, 2011

I was going to write "Happy Easter!" but it took me so long just to perfect my name that I decided it was enough.

Tis the Season for Grilling

April 23, 2011

This is our sad little setup for grilling. We have no yard at all, so we wheel the grill out into our shared driveway. But still it's always a great time to sit out there in folding chairs with some wine (beer for James), enjoy the nice spring weather, and grill up some dinner. Years from now, when (hopefully) we have a nice, big yard, we'll remember our first place and how much fun it was getting smoked out in our little garage grill hangout.

Iron and Glass

April 22, 2011

Decor at Chuy's Mexican restarurant - we were all ready to get out of the office for Friday lunch.

Flips

April 21, 2011

This is going to be a much better picture in about a month, when these flips are sitting in sand on Hanalei Bay.

They're watching me

April 19, 2011

Wooden boards in the garage follow me with their evil stares.

Taco Night

April 18, 2011

For dinner tonight, I made fish tacos and a side of black beans with chorizo.

Empty Chairs

April 17, 2011

When we arrived at the movie theater to see The Adjustment Bureau, we were the only people in there. Nice to pick the best seats in the house! The movie isn't going to win Best Picture, but I thought it was very entertaining.

Miller Outdoor Theater

April 16, 2011

We met some friends at Miller Outdoor Theater, and caught the tail end of the musical Hairspray. I had never been before - you can have a whole picnic setup while watching the show. I will definitely be back here soon.

V & A's

April 15, 2011

Peering into the kitchen at Vic & Anthony's, our favorite steakhouse in Houston.

Doodles

April 14, 2011

This is how you can tell I've been in too many meetings in one day.

Copper Pot

April 12, 2011

Our favorite wedding gift was from a group of my family members: a full set of copper pots and pans from Williams Sonoma. Sorry this is kind of lame but it's been a long week (oh wait it's only Tuesday...)

Butterfly

April 11, 2011

My Dad had this table made in Colorado when he worked there one summer when he was young. It was in my Grandparents' living room for close to 40 years. When my Grandmother moved out, she gave the table to me. In the middle is a pretty butterfly made of semi-precious stones.

Kemah

Rides at the Kemah Boardwalk.

Cyclone's

April 8, 2011

We had some out-of-towner friends staying with us for a couple nights, and they insisted on going to Cyclone Anaya's for dinner. We did not argue - it is without a doubt the best Tex-Mex on the planet. I made the mistake of ordering the "skinny" margarita though. Ick. Turns out the extra sugar is what makes it taste good.

Forgot again...

April 7, 2011

I almost fell asleep without taking a pic. This is the metal work on our headboard.

Suds

April 5, 2011

I got in my car this morning and noticed the biggest bird dropping I've ever seen on my passenger side window. Seriously a pterodactyl must have dive-bombed my car. I don't usually do those drive-through car washes, but it was absolutely necessary. Such colorful suds!

Community Bar

April 4, 2011

Lovely poster at Community Bar in Midtown. This place is so chill compared to the other bars/clubs in the area. And they serve much better than average bar food. The chef has been known to whip up new items based on what you're in the mood for. Unfortunately he wasn't there when we were ordering food, but the menu items we ordered were all delicious. Plus you cannot beat the bartender's wine pour.

Mise en place

In the process of making BBQ chicken tacos.........

Revival Market

April 2, 2011

This really cool place just opened in the Heights called Revival Market. It's primarily a meat market, selling all local meats. They also have a limited produce section, and other local foodstuffs like the Texas-made olive oil, shown here in vats. Along the far wall is the deli, meat counter, and bakery. It's not free, but the chicken I bought there was very fresh. I intend on going back for some of their amazing-looking steaks.

El T

March 31, 2011

My plan to eat well today fell through in a major way when James, from happy hour, texted me to ask if I wanted to meet our friends at El Tiempo for dinner. It's convenient because it's an equidistant walk from our and our friends' houses. Walking distance is really necessary, given the strength of their margaritas.

Chatters

March 30, 2011

Lantern at Chatters. I really want to like that place. The menu looks amazing (Mediterranean inspired), but the food is marginal.

11:49

March 29, 2011

This is what happens when I completely forget about the photo of the day until I am in bed about to fall asleep. I know everyone is excited about my view from bed.
