Bayou City Art Festival

March 27, 2011

We spent a few hours at the Bayou City Art Festival today, and I'm so glad we did. It's within walking distance from our house, and this is the first year we've gone. There were hundreds of booths, offering all sorts of crafts, from photography to sculptures to jewelry. I bought a funky new watch with a leather band and wooden face. I love it. At the entrance were giant sculptures of farm animals and such. The artist didn't seem to mind that kids were climbing all over his pieces. (and I asked permission to take pictures)

Bluebonnets

March 26, 2011

I love this time of year...the weather is perfect, days are getting longer, and the grass across Texas is covered with wildflowers.

All gone....

March 25, 2011

Bill is sad that he has no more beer.

Rule of Thirds

March 24, 2011

The bird gets it.

Spring is here

March 23, 2011

Ahhh, I would feel much more depressed about being away from the beaches of Mexico if the weather weren't sooooo awesome.

Little Amsterdam

March 22, 2011

Again with the staying home with lasting Mexico effects. This is a collection of knick knacks from Holland that are on our shelf.

Back to reality...blah blah blah

March 21, 2011

I got a little sick on the last day in Mexico, so I didn't make much effort to look for photo ops. Then I forgot until just before bed. Here's a vase I use to hold my bracelets.

Swim-up Suite

March 20, 2011

This is the view from our hotel room. It was really hard to leave this to catch our flight.

Wedding Day

March 19, 2011

Everything was beautiful: the weather, the ocean, the gigantic full moon later that evening, and most of all the bride.

Fiesta

March 18, 2011

The rehearsal dinner was a gorgeous setting at the Playa Mujeres Golf Club. And of course, no fiesta is complete without a pinata.

Ole!

March 17, 2011

My friend who is getting married organized a catamaran trip from our resort to Isla Mujeres. We spent some time at the beginning snorkeling, and then it turned boozy. Here we are anchored off the island. Look at that water!

Under the Sea

March 16, 2011

We made it to Mexico! We arrived at the hotel at 11:30, and promptly turned around and headed out at noon for a SCUBA dive. The water was unbelievably clear.

Delaney

March 15, 2011

We had a lovely family dinner at James's parents' house. This is his cousin's adorable little daughter Delaney. She never could quite blow any bubbles unassisted, but she really enjoyed trying.

BUBBLES.

March 14, 2011

Total Conditioning class at the gym took it out of me, so I decided to take a hot bubble bath. The danger with spa tubs is that a pretty small amount of bubble bath, combined with the jets, can create a mountain of bubbles that will swallow you whole.

Shellac

March 13, 2011

We're going to Mexico for a friend's wedding on Wednesday! In preparation, I got my nails polished with Shellac. It's supposed to last for two weeks, but knowing how I abuse my nails I have my doubts.

Billy Elliot

March 12, 2011

I went with the ladies in my family to see Billy Elliot. Great show! I've been dying to see it for a long time. Music by Elton John. The kid in it was an amazing dancer. They tour with several "Billy"s, and it occurred to me how difficult it must be to find enough kids that age that not only can dance that well, but also sing and generally carry a decent stage presence.

Also, while walking toward our seats, George H.W. Bush rolled by in his wheelchair right in front of us! I decided against taking his picture...you know, probably that gets old for him.

Tres Leches

March 11, 2011

I do not have the words to describe how amazing the tres leches at Churrasco's is. The icing is like eating clouds, only sweeter. And the cake is chilled and oozing with goodness.

Wheee!

March 10, 2011

Sometime laziness forces me to think outside the box. Or it's just laziness. Lights from a bar on Washington whizzing by, taken from the passenger seat.

Santamobile

March 9, 2011

The sleigh must go to the shop for repairs in the off-season. Those are little Santa figurines. I wish I could have gotten more of the driver in the pic, because he bore a striking resemblance to St. Nick. And, you'll notice, he's driving a Nissan SANTA. This may be my favorite picture-of-the-day so far.

Phoenicia

March 8, 2011

Freshly baked Arabic bread lined up for packaging at Phoenicia Market. I love that place - tens of thousands of square feet of imported foods, and huge deli counters with homemade dishes, fresh cheeses, etc. I picked up some bread, hummos, and tabouli. I used to live on that meal almost every day for lunch, when I was a kid growing up in Saudi Arabia.

The Usual

March 6, 2011

This is our neighborhood bar. Ironically, it draws a rather unusual crowd.

Movie Night

March 5, 2011

Saw "The King's Speech" at the Marque. Great movie!

Tila's

March 4, 2011

Decor outside Tila's on Shepherd.

Daisies

March 3, 2011

I've been kind of grumpy lately, so I got some daisies because they are the happiest flower.

End Road Work!

March 2, 2011

I am plagued by road work. It surrounds my house, my office building, my gym...it's everywhere. So we've decided to join the protest: End Road Work!

Me me me

March 1, 2011

Monthly self-portrait...this time in my office. The OCD in me is dying over the fact that I didn't think to turn the calendar to March until after I took this picture. Argh!

Winter

Bare tree illuminated by a nearby street light.

Rhode effing Island. SCORE.

February 27, 2011

James and I have a license plate game. The farther away the state, the more points the person who first saw the plate gets. Population of the state is also a factor. We've never really determined exact point values, but obviously this one was a huge score for me. Hawaii is the ultimate, of course.

Squirrel!

February 26, 2011

I didn't realize until I looked at this picture on the computer that we has an acorn in his little mouth! :)
