Birdsall

February 25, 2011

This is two blocks from our house, just to show the proximity to downtown.

Persian Design

February 24, 2011

This is a platter my Dad got in Iran some years ago.

Quinoa

February 23, 2011

I've been obsessed with quinoa lately. Tonight I cooked it in chicken broth, then mixed in grilled vegetables, chopped mint, and feta. Sooooo delicious.

Sky Art

February 22, 2011

Pretty cloud patterns.

Sumo Says, "Shot Glass"

February 21, 2011

I saw these pint glasses at a sushi place downtown when I worked down there, and had to have them so I found them online. The reverse side says, "We say, 'Pint glass.'"

Rice

February 20, 2011

I love the campus at Rice University, especially at night. I find it so quiet and pretty. And photogenic (although I may be biased because I took three photography classes there). I met up with some girls at Baker's Street in West U. I felt this blog deseved more than a picture of my chardonnay, so I took a lovely walk around the campus on my way home.

Shepherd Plaza

February 19, 2011

Went to dinner at Auntie Chang's Dumpling House upstairs at Shepherd Plaza. Sometimes I try to salvage uninspired shots by converting them to black and white. Successful? Eh...

ZILLA

February 18, 2011

Regular Friday at Little Woodrow's in Midtown. I love that gourmet food trucks are taking over the city. Zilla Street Eats (in the background) offers some pretty good grub. They have this amazing cheese sauce that basically goes on everything. A couple people in our group ordered cheesesteaks, another got a cheeseburger, and I got this grilled pork and mac and cheese combo, that was sinful. All with the magical cheese sauce.

Musical & Wine

February 17, 2011

I was feeling overly stressed today. Cure? A good musical and a glass of cabernet.

Les Givral's Kahve

February 16, 2011

I am so happy that a Vietnamese place finally came to Washington Avenue. The dining area and the counter are separated by a large sculpture of crossed wooden beams. The chargrilled pork vermicelli is outstanding!

El Rey

February 15, 2011

This is my go-to place for dinner on the way home from the gym. Their tacos are all very fresh and delicious.

Happy V Day!

February 14, 2011

James and I have a deal on Valentines Day: he sends me flowers at work (which I display proudly in my office for all to see), and I cook him a gourmet meal. And that's it, no presents or fighting the crowds at restaurants.

Home Sweet Home

February 13, 2011

It was a long trip back to Houston, but what a beautiful day. And we got to visit with some of my favorite peeps this weekend, so the drive was totally worth it.

Joe T's

February 12, 2011

Pretty much every time we come up to Fort Worth, our friends take us to Joe T's for Mexican brunch. It's probably the best patio experience around. Everyone was thankful for a beautiful sunny weekend after a couple weeks of ice and snow. The patio is filled with fountains, statues, and colorful plants and flowers. And our glasses were filled with some great ritas on the rocks.

Bourbon

February 11, 2011

I realize I just recently posted a picture of a bulldog, but Bourbon here wants to be an internet star, and who am I to deny him that? We went to Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend to visit friends who are about to have a baby! I'm not sure Bourbon fully appreciates yet what kind of impact that will have on his life.

Release

February 9, 2011

A great stress release to me is to bang out some songs on the electric piano we have downstairs. I don't do it enough. It's not quite as cathartic as it is on my Mom's baby grand, but it does well for the space we have.

Break my neck or....

February 8, 2011

I kept almost tripping on the cats' ball of yarn, so instead I took a picture of it. I didn't promise anything about 365 exciting photos.

Sunset in Westchase

February 7, 2011

Through dried raindrops on my office window.

Super Bowl

February 6, 2011

Packers vs. Steelers. I didn't really care who won, so I cheered for the Steelers because I like their uniforms better. We branched out and went to Little Woodrow's Downtown, where buckets of beer were cheap.

Happy (fake) Easter!

February 5, 2011

My friend Kate's brother is a manager at Brennan's, and got us a table there for the filming of Food Network's Unwrapped Easter brunch special. They asked us to wear Easter attire, which was amusing given that the ice still hadn't melted from the winter storm. We will just be in background shots (if that), but it was such fun and delicious food! Of course I ordered the Bananas Foster without even consulting the menu. I always use Brennan's recipe when I make it at home. Here's our waiter preparing it for the table.

Freeeeeze

February 4, 2011

OK so maybe some amount of hype was justified. The entire city of Houston woke up under a thick sheet of ice. Most everyone got an ice day. I managed to avoid major roads and made it over to Starbucks to get some work done on my laptop. We were all disappointed that it wasn't snow, but I guess it's better than the blizzards happening in the rest of the country.

Such Hype

February 3, 2011

I can't believe how much hype there is about the coming winter storm. There was a mass exodus from the office at 3PM today, so everyone could "get ahead of the weather." Schools are already cancelled for tomorrow, and I have yet to see a single flake. Here's the view while waiting for the train to pass. You'll notice it is STILL NOT SNOWING.

Still Way Too Cold

February 2, 2011

I still can't handle going outside in this weather. This is my elephant I got in India a long time ago. He sits on the shelf, just in front of a picture of my parents and me riding a real elephant.

Kitty Photobomb

February 1, 2011

I've read on other 365 projects that it's a good idea to include pictures of yourself from time to time, to show how you've changed throughout the year. If I remember, I'll try to do a self-portrait at the 1st of each month. Plus it is freezing outside so I refuse to go out for a pic. Apparently the only time my cat will pose for a picture is when she's not supposed to be in it.

Mmmm, soup.....

January 31, 2011

Three-bean soup with vegetables and turkey sausage. A quick and easy winter one-pot meal.
